Johnny Reb Leaves Forest Park

Johnny finally left St Louis. He thought to himself it was fitting that he leave on a hot and humid day sweltering just like the days when his people burned in Atlanta and waged war in the backwoods and swamps of Mississippi . He had fought hard for many generations fending off the entrance of foes to restaurants, subdivisions, neighborhoods and elected office. Johnny had inspired this city and it existed in his image. His army of grey inspired a young army in blue and each day the young soldiers passed Johnny sent them his love. Johnny whispered words of comfort as Ferguson erupted in enemy protest and sent his moral support to the warriors in his path. Looking back Johnny knew there was no one who could say he hadn’t fought the good fight. Nor had he not been a strong ally of his brother and neighbor Louis and a brother in arms to his distant relation permanently aroused on the St Louis Riverfront for all to see. Every year Johnny welcomed a veiled prophet to proselytize to the faith. After facing weeks of physical assault Johnny knew his time was all but up. After all Johnny had waived the white flag of surrender before. As recognition turned to grief Johnny found solace in scripture. Johnny vowed to live on in spirit after his physical departure from this world. After all, Johnny came to St Louis decades after Lee surrendered at Appomattox. When the last blows came to Johnny to remove his physical presence from this world he said a prayer to himself “I’ve now sacrificed my body for you, I now only exist in spirit and in your hearts, now go and spread my gospel to the uttermost places of St Louis, I shall live through you .”

Game of Thrones Season 7 Preview

I’ll be doing several videos previewing season seven of Game of Thrones and will be doing videos every week during the season. The first two videos are a critical look at Daenerys Targaryen and a comparison between the Red Priestess and ISIS. Take a look and subscribe to my YouTube channel as I’ll continue to add to my Game of Thrones playlist.

Gloves for Grades

Last night I had the privilege of attending the Gloves For Grades charity event at the Marquette Rec Center in South St Louis. This event was titled the “Jamilah Nasheed Classic” due to its sponsorship by the State Senator.

Gloves  For Grades is the brainchild of 7th Ward Committeeman Marty Murray. A former amateur boxer himself Murray seeks to use the sport of boxing to promote both academic achievement and staying off the streets. A number of local gyms participated in the event along with gyms from as far away as Indiana.

Presently Murray is trying to close in on a building for the program and is looking to hold another show and fundraiser this summer so stay tuned.

Below are some videos of a couple of the bouts. The victorious fighters in both of these bouts are coached by St Louis boxing hall-of-famer Keith Abdul-Qawi.

Death and A Carnival: On The Tragic Murder of Nabra Hassanen

Thank you Abu Musa for sharing the video of another of the teens with Nabra. The kid elaborated on the altercation that began things that ultimately led to the horrible murder of Nabra. From what he described it was a typical young male altercation, free of any bias or phobia, that went way too far and ended in the death of a young woman. While her body was still warm some activists began pushing the theory that this was a hate-crime despite any evidence and many on Twitter were eager to co-sign. Irresponsible people ran with that  narrative on social media. Sloppy journalists picked up on it. And even, have you no fucking decency, some began visiting the family and the community to encourage them to insist this was a hate crime. Instigators and those who dance on the blood of the dead for their own agenda are quick to start shit, but if their bullshit causes violence between Muslims and Latinos they’ll be far away. Probably in New York sucking up some media attention. All of us have a responsibility to the truth, to think about what we share on social media before we do, and to first and foremost comfort the suffering and not try and exploit them. Northern Virginia will see a few things in the coming days:
-Outside activists pushing  a narrative that best coincides with their agenda quickly followed by fundraising efforts
-White allies mostly in the form of fringe political zealots looking to exploit a tragedy to organize for their agenda
-Media, both right and left, looking to feed their base with cheap clickbait
Who will be with the family after she is a hashtag though?  For birthdays?  For anniversaries of this tragedy? To call in the middle of the night?

Eyewitness Accounts to the Nabra Murder

I’ve been talking to eyewitnesses to the Nabra Murder and people in the Northern Virginia Muslim community.  This video contains the eyewitness accounts as told to me. Basic facts:

-A young 17 year old high school student was murdered

-the attacker sought to attack others in the group

-The group of fifteen contained 5 Muslim males as well

-Witnesses don’t believe this was an attack motivated by hatred of Muslims
